My husband and I did a 2D/1N cruise on the Petit White Dolphin boat in a deluxe cabin. It was a small ship (only 4 cabins; 8 passengers) which we really enjoyed. Our cabin was very comfortable and had picture windows so you always had a beautiful view. The food was excellent and there was a lot of it (many courses). The drinks were delicious and not overly expensive (more like US prices, but nothing outrageous). The upper deck had plenty of lounge chairs and table seating for everyone to relax and enjoy the scenery. There were many activities included in the trip (bamboo boat through floating fishing village, kayak, squid fishing, making spring rolls) and we enjoyed all of them. Transfers from Hanoi were included with our booking also. We were picked up from our hotel in a luxury limobus. The return trip was just a regular oversized van (not sure how we got the luxury one on the way to Halong Bay). They do stop about half way through the drive each way at a tourist trap full of souvenirs, but no one is too pushy about making you purchase anything. It's just a waste of a half hour.

We stayed 1 night on this cruise. The cruise goes to the "Bai ta long" bay part of Halong. This is a smaller area with fewer boats. The rooms are clean and are fully equipped. Great showers and a very comfortable bed. The food on the cruise is very good, we got to eat a lot of fresh seafood. They have a well stocked bar which serves at a reasonable rate. There is an upper deck with lounge chairs, normal chairs and table to enjoy the view ( although slightly windy and cold this time of the year). The activities for 1 night and 2 day trip is fixed and include a limestone cave, kayaking, squid fishing (optional) and a trip to a floating village (in no particular order). The activities were well organized. My only regret is that the activities were a bit one dimensional, all the boats in the area go to the same cave and same village and do the same kayaking. According to the guide it's government regulated but I feel that in such a huge area of the bay you need to have some originality in your cruise. Although halong bay was an amazing experience, I felt 1 day was good enough on this cruise to cover all activities.

Overall a good if not slightly rushed experience. A lot of time spent driving to and from Hanoi. Boat staff were fantastic, guide was very knowledgeable and efficient but could loosen up a bit. Major pro of the tour was that the typical tourist traps were specifically avoided. Food was okay. Cabin was nice, comfortable bed but lousy pillow. I strongly do not recommend this tour for solo travelers as your fellow passengers on such a small boat may end up being the most unfriendly individuals imaginable as i experienced.

Entering the boat in Halong City Harbour we were a little sceptic because of age and status of the boat. But this quickly changed because of the cleanness of cabin, the fantastic staff and also the food served! Halong Bay (UNESCO World Heritage) is an absolute must in Vietnam. We´d have liked it much more if the sun would be shining and one has a clear view. Staff told us that sun and clear view is seldom. So we took what we got and enjoyed it really very much. The scenery is extraordinary!
